Sumanrs is right, I think. Apple builds hardware, sure, but it’s also building big data centers now and offering a wide variety of cloud services. I don’t think its increased capex is just a coincidence.

I think it’s particularly difficult to compare Apple’s CapEx to these other companies given their involvement in manufacturing. Although they obviously don’t own any factories, Apple is known to purchase machinery and other equipment that its partners won’t/can’t purchase themselves.

Remember that Apple is getting into a lot of online services now – iTunes, iCloud … and even getting into the online maps business. And iTunes hosts and serves a ton of requests: apps, audio, video, etc. So while Apple is a hardware company, its becoming a “soft” services company as well…
