By contrast, my minimal rate for ANY single-use photo sale is $225. Picture prices should be be based on the type of usage, audience size and reproduction size. Your goal in selling photos to make money should be to sell specificly defined, “limited rights” for a single use to a single publisher and to “reserve all other rights”. Do NOT sign one-sided, work-for-hire contracts devised by publishers.

If FOAP or its picture-buying publishing customers also have the right to resell your copyrighted photos, this is an even worse deal for photographers — professional or amateur. They”ll end up competing against you with your own work.

Unethical publishers have been trying to pilfer “all rights” to photos from photographers for years and this sounds like another scam in a long line of rights-grabbing schemes. Most people probably are better off selling their own work one image at a time or looking at traditional picture agencies that actually protect photographers’s rights rather than undermine them.

“The “Foap App” is a smartphone application for the handling and uploading of photos to Foap Market. “Foap Market” is a marketplace in which a mobile phone user can publish photos taken with his/her mobile phone and offer such photos for sale to other Users who wish to use the photo.” And read this in their About section; “Our vision is to, with your help, turn Foap into the worlds largest marketplace for smartphone photos.” So, I think we ARE limited to using pics captured via our smartphones. Let me know if you disagree.
