Great point Keith. Oh and by the way Mr. Mickos, what if I want to run this on the bare metal of a 12-core Mac Pro tower (with 64-bit EFI firmware), which Apple just lowered the entry price to at WWDC. Sigh, I can just imagine the answer is something like "its not compatible with Apple's bare metal". Some shops to have quite a few Mac Pro towers btw. The only VMWare product that I'm aware of that will run on Mac bare metal is Fusion (or maybe Workstation if booted to Windows or a Linux distro).

The value of their product in the enterprise are their plugins and the integration with AWS. As they stated in your previous post this software is hard to build. I don't believe the enterprise is interested in open source for cloud management. API's are more than enough.

This announcement maybe more relevant to service providers and system integrators but not the enterprise. I'd love for them to give an example of an enterprise deploying a private cloud and rolling their own plugins.

"If you want to run this integrated with VMware you need plug-in and you’ll pay for that but it’s not a separate edition” I don't think end users really care about the editions. It's all about hypervisor integration for the private cloud and if the VMWare portion isn't FOSS then what's the news here?
