I would say its worth your money as you can save a lot of energy using this smart Nest thermostat. It can learn from you daily behavior can can adjust itself. I like how you can control it remotely as well.

I am a housing inspector. I have noticed that the people who waste the most energy are the poor. I would never have thought it, as soon as they get on those programs that pay the majority of their bill each winter, they crank that thermostat up higher. I doubt I will find NEST in their apartments.

A reply to your Roomba comment, except that this site won’t let me reply to that comment, so I must reply to the parent – anyway, simply FYI: Current Roomba gen. is Series700, but wireless connectivity has been avail. on Roombas since 500 Series :) See YouTube videos of them “dancing” via wireless remote control.

The Nest Thermostat is an appcessory. There’s an iOS app for control/management which makes this product every bit as worthy of being sold by Apple.

Apple sells a ton of 3rd party items that coexist with their ecosphere, it makes perfect sense. So yes, Tony F most likely would have approved. It’s completely obvious Apple has no interest in servicing the home thermostat market, so why not showcase a product that works seamlessly with Apple tech? Win-win.

Which Home Depot did you see them? I saw some at the Best Buy San Carlos, CA, but only because they put together a mini energy exhibit.
