Warm beer? Come on Bobbie, you can do better than that! Are you trying to regurgitate the commonly-held, yet mistaken belief that we drink warm beer to paint a stereotypical picture of England for our American and antipodean cousins? Real ale is not meant to be served ice cold. Vile effluent like Budweiser and VB, on the other hand, shouldn't be served at all.

I heard that a guy from BBC claimed the Neul network was never really on much nor did it carry much traffic at all. Looks like PR Stunt for the Cambridge based companies.

I'm not sure people gather their stereotypes of Cambridge from the Nobel prize list, as opposed to popular conceptions of Oxbridge gathered from the likes of Brideshead, Porterhouse Blue, Chariots of Fire, Footlights and the Pythons.

But don't worry Jonathan: as a Cambridge native I'm rooting for the home team.

Re your caricature of Cambridge as posh academics cycling around in their Harry Potter-esque glasses and discussing the finer points of French philosophy, I would point out the simple fact below:
Affiliates of University of Cambridge have won more Nobel Prizes than those of any other institution. 88 Nobel Prizes mainly in science: 29 in Physics, 25 in Medicine, 21 in Chemistry, nine in Economics, two in Literature and two in peace. Between 1904 and 2010. So not quite French philosophy but rather the foundations of science and medecine.

Interesting how Board member Glenn Collinson noted that this mobile broadband solution creates more issues (i.e. power consumption on battery devices, enevitable capacity limitations, etc.). This innovation will pave the path for future innovations. Great idea!!!

This is not rocket science. As the air waves are public property to be used as the government sees fit....time to get off the pot and start putting this space to use. There is little doubt that the big wireless carriers don't want the competition...and are exerting a lot of pressure to prevent any wide spread and meaningful deployment of this kind of service.
