Coworking, as a method or industry, can play an important role to help educators improve the path from school to jobs. Strategic partnerships between coworking facilities and higher ed is a good sign that leading higher ed institutions are paying attention and willing to adapt.

Cospace, in Austin (http://cospaceatx.com), has been playing a key role in closing the "skills gap" -- the gap between the talent required to bring innovation to market and the actual talent available. Offering two additional experiences beyond traditional coworking, "Build" and "Learn." "Build", as in building innovative products and businesses through lean and agile methods; "Learn" as in the skills development and experiential learning to enhance the talent pool for the "Builders" -- the entrepreneurs and innovators that meet and work at Cospace.

I'm new to the concept of coworking but what comes to mind from this is why just college? What if coworking spaces hosted a high school night where kids could come and do their work in a productive but cool environment. Possibly have a specialist in a subject they could ask for advice or about life and rotate the specialist subject (Math one week, Science the next time). Start the ideas for change with the youth and they'll carry them through to adulthood and possibly even take the ideas further than you ever imagined.
