RIM has a decent cash position and not insignificant market share, so they have time to turn things around. Apple was in a much worse situation 15 years ago. But, RIM needs to have a good strategy and good execution to survive.

Absolutely spot on Sam, RIM’s lack of innovation & failure to really cater for the needs of the mass consumers have led to it playing catch up to iOS & Android. I hope RIM gets it right this time.

Heins doesn't get it. There is no one, single game to stay ahead of any more. The challenge is to find the right game to play, and choosing one may mean abandoning another. Google maximises flexibility. Apple minimises hassle. Microsoft (or the MiNoFa 3-way alliance) is trying to be socially plugged in. What is RIM's game, now that "enterprise" can no longer be a winner?
