1GB (which I hear is actually 500MB now) for free seems like a great deal to me. I'm currently paying $30 for 300MB with AT&T. Why would someone like me *not* want to give this a try?

Nice to see that an MVNO is trying to get mobile bandwidth down to a reasonable price. With Open Garden we are working on mobile bandwidth sharing since almost a year and half now. Our peer2peer mesh app is ready and we are looking for more beta testers. it just requires an Android device and a laptop to test. To have more of you before our public release would be great http://bit.ly/privatebeta Thanks !

The killer app for mobile broadband is video. That's how the 1gb cap will look tiny. They would encourage using the wifi on laptops too, which should help.

Look for FreedomPop to upsell real time games, video and audio. Zynga, Netflix and Spotify will be good partnerships. Access to live sports streams, exclusive event broadcasts, etc should play a part in their revenue model too.

Don't forget that there's a killer live video streaming/analyzing startup lurking around, that hasn't been built yet.

PS: They plan to charge a $100 deposit for the case, so someone planning to purchase 15 cases, that would put their deposits at risk.

in the US i would say a credit card would limit low income adoption period. people without much money do not like to hand over credit card number for something advertised as 'free.'

for the slick people on the other hand who would want to max out what they get free by using multiple devices there are also cheap disposable prepaid credit cards they can grab at 7-11 or drugstores. one card for each dongle.
