There’s no place for UGC or related content on Connected TV that Blip specializes in because brand advertisers aren’t willing to attach their money and brands to that type of content. The title “there’s no money in Smart TV” is about as inaccurate as it could be. There growing numbers who are making a lot of money on Connected TV (Netflix, Hulu, GBTV, etc).

What is it costing Blip to appear on Boxee, PopBox, etc.? If if it’s not that much, I think it would be worth at least the exposure it brings to their service. For instance, I had only known of Blip thru Boxee.

Perhaps Blip should reposition as a branded channel instead of a platform? They would likely get better engagement rates if they were known as, say, the #1 source of cat videos.

this blip decision is part of a larger trend away from being a “jack-of-all-trades” which is youtubes strategy and towards specialization within their segment market, we’ve already seen other video sites use it to carve out niches for themselves with less competition so I think blip will be successful
