it is a sad day when a tech website uses strike through to update articles while main stream media just silently revises articles/changes history with no accountability.

Are you guys referring to bbm groups when you say that there is no bbm? I have bbm on my playbook, but it’s only the groups that aren’t enabled.

BBM will not be available in PlayBook OS 2.0. That is confirmed. Only native email, contacts & calendar app are main features. Android player is also added in this update. BBM will be added to next update schedule to release later this year (OS 3.0 or BlackBerry 10) before BlackBerry London (http://harryminhas.wordpress.com/2011/08/08/blackberry-london/) & BlackBerry PlayBook 2 launch.

Rather than focus on building out their own platform, they’re allowing ports of Android to run on their tablet? They might as well just throw out their OS and make it a BlackBerry-built Android tablet – though we don’t really need one more in the mix.

RIM has been disappointing us recently, hopefully the update next week will be delivered and run smoothly. Harry, I though BBM would be available in this update. That is disappointing.

Google and the advertisers make the money from advertising. Why should RIM help Google fatten their bank account for free? They will probably workout some kind of a deal in the future!

This just doesn’t seem true. RIM allows native, AIR, and HTML5 apps to display advertisements in them, I see no reason why they would not allow Android apps to do the same. What RIM wouldn’t be able to provide Android apps is Google-specific APIs for advertisements (and in-app purchases that are tied to the Android Market).

RIM took too long to release this major update. At last PlayBook 2.0 will be available on Feb 21 but still no bbm. Android app player is just there to boost numbers for BlackBerry App ecosystem. No ad support is disappointing. Maybe BlackBerry OS 3.0 will come with ad support and extra features. Reports suggest OS 3.0 will be launched later this year before the release of BlackBerry PlayBook 2 (http://harryminhas.wordpress.com/2012/01/20/blackberry-playbook-2/)
