Such a great article, Trey!
Love it, especially:
Sneak into hundreds of Barnes & Nobles, secretly sign my books, then tweet out the location so a little flash mob would appear to get the special signed version. (BTW, this got me thrown out of at least three bookstores by short-sighted managers.) Hilarious!
Found this blog on Google+ where I had just posted my blog http://savvybookwriters.wordpress.com/2012/02/24/why-authors-need-marketing-skills-lots-of-them/
Will look for your book at B&N - preferably a signed one ;-)
All the best, Doris

I read an article where a bookseller mentioned that their customers often looked over the print copy then added it to their list of e-books to purchase. Basically, print displays were acting as an advertisement for the e-book. Maybe it's not print OR e-book, maybe the two complement each other. There are books I'd like to own in print, but I'd prefer to have access to the text on a reader. If I only had to pay a bit more to have both, I would. I'm wondering if publishers have considered bundling prices for the two versions.

Very much agreed, if this were a problem i wouldn't buy ebooks.

Fortunately there are ebook-store that don't use DRM (theblacklibray), among other means.

Having written and had published 3 children's books, (2more ready to go), I had the same visions of splendour and accolades. In the hole on each, I am dubious of publishing any more. It must be self satisfying to know that you beat the system.
The only way to succeed is either supply to an existing need or create the need from what you can supply.
You have apparently achieved both, kudos.

The main reason why i'm still buying physical books is because most e-books have DRM on them. I want to really own what I buy and still be able to read it in 15 year when technology will have evolved and I will be on my 10th tablet.

Yes, some business books have filler because they're about one idea. I'm not sure though, that everything can be reduced to 50 pages. Call me old school, but some of my favorite business books are much, much longer. The Long Tail, The World is Flat, and others are much longer than that.

I'll check out your company. It does sound interesting. And everyone knows that the traditional publishing industry is ripe for continued disintermediation and disruption.

I agree with the author's observation about Kindle, Nook, and iPad owners who collect books "like nuts for the winter". But observing myself and my friends, that fast rate of acquisition is an early stage that plateaus. If you looked at my book-purchasing pattern the first two weeks I owned a Kindle and extended that trend line indefinitely, I'd have become an all-ebook guy in about a month. But that's not what happened. After three weeks, my rage for nut-gathering ran its course. I really like my Kindle--for some things, but not everything.

Actually, you probably aren't saving trees -- and you're definitely adding to landfill. The vast majority of US electronic devices -- from cell phones to flat screens, end up in landfill either here or overseas in places like India.
