Cheaper is not necessarily an android trait. And, they’d have to spend the first semester teaching the kids how to protect themselves from malware ;-)

@Sterling – can you point to a comparable app in the Android Market? Because I can’t find one. Moreoever, the volume purchasing program for schools allows schools to purchase 20+ App Store apps at half price while the Android market has no comparable program. Nor are there the same sorts of carts, charging stations, institutional support, etc. available for android tablets that there are for the iPad. Those are all major reasons schools select iPad over Android.

Obvious solution: switch to Android tablets. They’re cheaper – cost was mentioned several times in this article, so it seems fair to assume that’s an issue. But moreover, there are none of Apple’s hoops to jump through, none of Apple’s restrictions to get in the way.
