From the outside iZettle is a clone of Square, but under the hood they have had to build an entirely different technology to support payments in Europe with chip & PIN rather than magnetic strip.

Doing that is not easy, and it’s something that Square has shown little interest in (their current position is that they “are beginning to look into other markets [but] there is not specific timeline for international availability”. This, despite $168 million in funding.)

So if iZettle helps break open the market where Square’s not interested and brings payment alternatives to customers elsewhere, then…
