What’s remarkable here is that the content didn’t have to suffer, that unlike most web video content, it’s a self-produced standup show starring a name talent that’s just as good if not better than something you’d be paying a $100+ premium cable bill for.

But here’s the thing, just because he released the content online, it doesn’t preclude him from going out and getting some of that premium cable cash, or Netflix or Hulu or the assortment of international clones of each that are cropping up around the globe.

Now that he’s proven there’s an audience, it gains some of that early 90s “indie hit” glamour, and distributors will be going direct to him to license this and produce more. That doesn’t mean anything to you, but it does to other name talents. They see this as a way to go United Artists and ditch the system.

Louis CK is the guy to talk to if you happen to want to do the same thing. That’s the real point, expect clones of this business model to crop up pretty quick, starting with all the performers who have more than 100k social media followers but NOT national appeal.

There are hundreds of comedians solely using youtube with hundreds of thousands if not millions of subscribers making an incredibly comfortable living off of their material. Most don’t go on tours, but should they decide to they will for sure sell tickets.

The problem is you have too many comedians or content creators that really aren’t talented enough and saturate the space creating this false perception that yourself has seem to bought into that things can’t be done this way. You also have the talented content creators that just don’t know how to leverage the right tools properly to build their presence.

If you are talented and know what you are doing you can accomplish everything you wish to solely leveraging the internet.

And to answer your questions in regards to examples: Jenna Marble, Dom Mazzetti, Timothy DeLaGhetto, Kain carter, Kev Jumba and the list goes on and on and on….
