Verizon 4G coverage in San Diego "proper" is spotty. I live very centrally, in an area named University City, and as of Jan 2012 my home is NOT covered. Their official coverage map shows my home, and an area around it with a diameter of about 100 yards, being "extended 4G" which appears to be VerizonSpeak for "3G for you, bud". I am VERY impressed with the accuracy of their coverage map, but very UNimpressed by the fact that my home isn't covered by 4G.
