It is not longer the future, it is happening today. More and more are going solos, realizing that they don't want to be slaves for others, and that working by yourself is more lucrative and fun than working to make someone else rich.

Contract project management is on the rise (project managers working as freelancers), and this trend is for the long term.

For those interested in becoming project management contractors, you can read more about it here: http://www.pmhut.com/how-to-become-a-project-management-contractor

Thanks to interviewadvisor and Jonathan Burroughs for your comments. Like you, I see these shifts as positive and empowering for individuals. We’re moving toward a society where passions and expertise can be better aligned to workplace structures.
I love all these words to help fire up companies and individuals to what is definitely a new and often better way of working. Here in the UK we are only starting to see signs of it but those of us at the coal face are having a lot of fun and undoubtedly delivering tangible results that make a real difference. Power to your elbow. Good to see some recognition of the trend State side.
