It’s a start: Facebook begins Timeline rollout in New Zealand
Updated. Facebook has officially started rolling out the new Timeline user interface in earnest, some 10 weeks after announcing its imminent release at the f8 conference in September. But users in the company’s native United States will still have to wait for Facebook’s new look: The roll-out is starting in New Zealand.
Facebook’s Sam Lessin spilled the news in an update to the company’s initial blog post about Timeline that reads:
“We announced Timeline in September and made it available to developers building apps on our platform. Since then, over a million people have signed up for the developer beta to access Timeline. The feedback we’ve received so far has been invaluable. Starting today, we are making Timeline more widely available as we measure speed and other types of performance. We’ll begin by making it available to people in New Zealand and then roll it out more broadly in the near future.”
We’ve reached out to Facebook for more details on when Timeline will hit the US — and why Kiwis are the lucky ones to see the launch first. This post will be updated with any comments we receive.
Update: Via email, a Facebook spokesperson said: “As a global company, we need to gain perspective and insights from outside the US. New Zealand is a good place to start because it’s English speaking, so we can read the feedback and make improvements quickly.”

So excited about this. It seemed like it was never going to happen. See http://www.faceitpages.com/facebook-timeline-cover.php to create a free Timeline Cover banner.
Fookcover already made a special NZ celebration cover http://j.mp/rGq3ai. #newzealand
Looks like facebook has an app that supplies timeline covers, too. https://apps.facebook.com/timeline_covers
New Zealand is also the first place in the world to see the sun rise too, due to the timezone there.
And if you screw it up, it’s New Zealand. :)
I still have not seen an invite to join Timeline – I am interested in trying it out. I wonder if Facebook will allow those who aren’t interested to keep the old profile style.
