Google Maps 6.0 Atlanta Airport

Google’s new version of its Maps For Android app should be able to help you make that mad dash across Atlanta’s sprawling Hartsfield-Jackson airport to catch a connecting flight or find the Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) Store in the Mall Of America.

Google (NSDQ: GOOG) has added indoor maps to the latest version of the app, version 6.0, it announced Tuesday. A limited number of partners are participating in the initial roll-out of the indoor mapping function, but they include places such as the busiest airport in the U.S. (Atlanta), Home Depot stores, and even Ikea, which offers perhaps the most confusing navigation experience in retail.

This app has long been a showcase for Android phones, and gives Google a bit of ammunition that Android partners can use when marketing their phones. All of the locations currently available are in either the U.S. or Japan, but Google said it planned to add additional locations as soon as possible in other areas.

  1. Interactive floor plan maps have been around for a long time now in private industry:  http://www.floorplanmapper.com I am very pleased to see Google extending this functionality into public spaces!
