Safari Books Online: Andrew Savikas has been appointed CEO of Safari Books Online, a joint venture of O’Reilly Media and Pearson (NYSE: PSO) Education that provides educational and reference materials to users via digital subscription. Savikas was program chair for O’Reilly’s Tools of Change for Publishing Conference.

Compass Labs: Kevin Weafer was recently promoted to Vice President National Sales Director, a new position for the social advertising technology creator. Compass Labs also hired Ananth Nagarajan as vice president of engineering, and Molly Glover Gallatin as vice president of marketing. Nagarajan most recently worked for Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) as the director of next-gen display ad systems. Gallatin joins Compass Labs from video ad technology company YuMe.

Mesa: Media Rights Capital’s Marni Wieshofer and banking veteran Roddy Moon have joined as managing directors of media and entertainment investment bank Mesa. Wieshofer, who was CFO and SVP of corporate development and M&A of Media Rights Capital, will work from Mesa’s soon-to-be opened Los Angeles office and will provide merger and acquisition and debt and equity capital raising, and investment advisory services to entertainment clients. East coast-based Moon, who led digital media and internet practices at Jefferies & Co., will provide merger and acquisition advisory and capital raising services to Mesa clients with a focus on online advertising, marketing and e-commerce.

SocialVolt: Social media and digital marketing veteran Joe Cox has joined SocialVolt as director of marketing, where he’ll implement the overall marketing strategy. Prior to this, Cox held an interactive strategist role at Muller Bressler Brown, where he worked with brands to implement digital marketing strategies. Previously, he worked with Coca-Cola and Red Bull.
