My experience in publishing open4energy - top read web site on energy scams - is that most consumers are looking for money, sex or fun!

Saving energy may sound cool, but other than the early adopters of technologies like The Energy Detective - this could (sadly in my opinion) fall foul of the energy apathy we actually have once you get away from the people who want to believe!

Like Katie - I do hope I am wrong!!!!

We will list this in our directory of energy saving devices, and do what we can to encourage energy savers to get engaged.

Do hope that the mobile application, and integration with climate conditions to extend its smarts will happen earlier rather than later!

Seems pretty evil to me. It's founded on the premise that you're going to have your air con on all the time, which would use a horrendous amount of energy. Yes, if you have your air con on all the time already, adjusting the temperature in a smart way will save some energy, but it's so much wiser (and normal, in most places) to switch it off entirely. Turn on your heater when it's cold and you expect to be sitting for a while in the evening. Turn it off at night when you can stay warm in bed and in the morning when you won't be home long anyway, or will be moving about and can generate enough body heat that you'll stay warm in winter clothes.

As one of those few who actually programs my digital thermostat, what I really want to do is keep my kitchen cool enough to prevent pantry food going rancid, and my other areas at a comfortable range that can vary by outside temperature (warm in summer, cool in winter is fine because I'm already dressed appropriately). But where the thermostat is in the hall can be 5 degrees or more off from where I spend time (in a small condo even, about 700sf) So I'd be on on this if I could also get wireless remote sensors. Kick on the AC if the kitchen goes over 80, kick on the heat if the LR/BR gets under 65. Something like that. A better thermostat is certainly welcome, but if it's going to be smart, I want it to evaluate my spaces room by room, give me a graph for how the temperature in each space varies by day, by week vs weekend, and by month or season, and I want to know how often my AC kicks on.

Cool, but I'd much rather have $250 than one of these (actually $1000, since I have a four zone system). It needs to sell @ ~ $50.00 to get me to click.
