You mention the Open Networking Summit, which has a bunch of really good speakers lined up to talk about OF. On October 26, there is also an OF Symposium that you might want to watch. It is being hosted by PacketPushers (http://packetpushers.net/) and TechFieldDay (http://techfieldday.com). The format will be more of a debate style. The panel includes Cisco, Juniper, Google, Yahoo, NEC, Big Switch, and Stanford. Details for the event are here: http://techfieldday.com/2011/openflow-symposium/

Full disclosure: I am a Juniper employee, so we are an event participant. But I figured if you wanted to start to see how the HW vendors in this space view a technology that changes how the network is monetized, you might want to attend the event yourself.
