Updated. The society as we know it is going through a radical makeover, thanks to constant connectivity everywhere. This is creating a need for a digital makeover of everything – from retail to our postal system. It is changing our infrastructure needs and it is also increasing the velocity of business. The Economist Intelligence Unit have Progress Software has crafted an infographic that captures this change based on research from the Economist Intelligence Unit.

  1. Connecting two of the dots: 75% say communication technology would help when in fact 28% of the problem is inaccurate/incomplete data. Hmmm, making good decisions on bad data makes for bad decision.

    1. yes but wouldn’t better communication (less time and space between those communicating) help expose some of the inaccuracies and thus improve the data?

  2. I think the core problem is:
With digitization comes disintegration of data organization or boundaries. In other words an increase in data density which has to be organized in new ways.
From Albums to songs on playlists to Newspapers to blog posts. From one snail mail to X email to how man tweets?

Not only do we have an increase in Data density through digitization, we also got Globalization which increases Data density and diversity. Now mother nature uses 2 main strategies to cope with the required adaptability, short life cycle to adopt through DNA changes [top down] or learning.

Looks to me most companies choose the short life cycle adaptation.

No brain has all the right data at the right time, if one waits for that one never will learn to walk on two feet. Or one can hope for more resources, 4 feet seem to help.

  3. Really insightful comments. As with any data and statistics, its the contextual analysis of that data that reveals the truth.

  5. Wow. This is global. Tech is not only changing business. It’s changing our language, lexicon, how we communicate, how much TIME we spend communicating, etc. Some make it seem like this is a new radical shift though. If you go back, the invention of paper was radical as well and completely shifted how we shared or recorded information.
