Silicon Valley electric car startup Fisker Automotive has unveiled its second extended-range electric car, a crossover sports car and station wagon called the Surf, at the Frankfurt Show on Tuesday. Fisker says the Surf, which will be available in the 2013 model year, was built off the platform of its first electric car, the Karma, which it started delivering to customers in July.

The company plans to start building its second series of cars, code-named Project Nina, at the end of 2012, with sales starting in 2013. Interestingly enough, earlier this month Fisker announced that Project Nina will use BMW engines and other BMW parts.
