The way you put that is interesting: “manipulative” situation vs. effectiveness in interpersonal relationship. Manipulative situations are harmful, dysfunctional interpersonal relationships. People with poor social skills or “mild Asperger’s” may want to opt out of all or most social situations. The people with the best social and interpersonal skills will feel thwarted and poisoned in toxic, manipulative offices.

I agree on every point. I am far happier, have higher life satisfaction, get more done, and feel crazy-motivated almost all the time. Would rather die than go back to corporate life.

I agree, I would love to work from home and catch up with work colleagues every couple of days, I think time alone is good and helps you to focus, at times the every day office environment can become a bit a bit………..

I think its the home/work-life balance that makes me happiest about working from home. I can take a few hours out of the middle of the day to get errands done if need be and my work doesn’t suffer.

What telecommuting equates to is autonomy. This is why corporations look down on “loners.” When you are autonomous, you are less likely to put up with corporate BS and arse-kissing. Being in an office is about keeping you under their thumb, even though you get less work done.

I completely agree with this. I’m in the same situation, I’m much more willing to work long hours when they are on my terms. In many ways, having a traditional office is a waste of time. I can get all my work done in much less time when I’m working from home. Granted, working from home isn’t for everyone, it takes dedication and discipline.

Totally agree with you. what you could do in an office environment for 8-9 hours gets done in 2-3 hours leaving the rest of the day for other activities.
