DVD media is so cheap, they should make it available in a white label bulk/OEM DVD format at the Apple store. No install manual, no paper packaging, just the disc in a sleeve. Surely the costs of ~$0.50 for a DVD wouldn't break them for the few customers that want/prefer a DVD for install?

Plus, aren't they supposed to be becoming more Business Friendly at some point? IT departments aren't going to ever adopt an OS that can't be installed internally on their own servers/desktops behind the firewall. It's not that Apple has made any big inroads in that area, but this isn't a step in that direction either.

While the iPhone/iPad has gone a long way in paving the road for adoption of Apple iPhone/iTouch/iPad products in the corporate environment, they just put a roadblock in the way of getting the Mac into that same environment.

You and millions of others. The difference is we use BitTorrent most of the time so it is relatively painless to distribute large files especially on launch day.
And Apple resellers - Maybe more numerous in Europe than in USA ? - are on the R.I.P. way with Apple and the candid absolution of Gadgets / Apple fans Blogs....

They will win around 1 € / 1$ for the Lion ROoAarrrRRRrrr birth ! In a a very enthousistat letter, Apple explain them that 4% are their gain for each Lion on the road... A providence to sell new gorgeous full powered machines is explained to them.. And they are giving their clients keys to the Cupertino Ogre in the same" Passe-passe"* magical trick???

So i think with the next OSX "Wild Cat", Mac Apple Store will be the only purchase channel. No way to install anything from DVD disc (erased !) or USB Key.... So old fashioned, of course !

Thanks to all Gadgets / Apple fans Blogs.... for their contribution to this monopolistic game... And the lack of this economic disaster point of view for those peoples...

* In French...
