I think it will be a long time before FCPX gets any serious use at my company. We've been FCP since v3 (Not Final Cut Studio 3, Final Cut Pro 3 circa 2001) and I would have more use for FCP 3 at this point than FCPX.

FCPX's lack of Deck control, external video card support and not working at standard frame rates (using 1/100ths of a sec instead) are basically deal breakers.

We'll probably check it out to see how "magical" it is, but I would guess it will be at least a year before they get this new software up to the usability of FCP7 (if at all).

I think this is a good day to be Avid and Adobe

Yea but the "basic" editors work cheap, and they'll be many more of them (especially in the freelance market) bringing the current going rate for descent editors down to about $10 an hour.

I'd head over to Creative Cow and see what the pros are saying.
FCPX can't open FCP7 files, no XML, No 3rd party plugins... Tons of limitations right out the gate. http://forums.creativecow.net/finalcutprox

I'll probably upgrade, since the demos have looked pretty sweet... The pricing really isn't too bad, when you try to work out what a reasonable "upgrade" price might be for a $1000 suite of software.
