Hulu Plus On Tivo Premiere

TiVo (NSDQ: TIVO) Premiere subscribers were told in September that Hulu Plus, the online streaming site’s paid service, would be added to the DVR service and it’s finally here. Meanwhile, TiVo hopes the addition of Hulu Plus’ content will help draw in consumers. As part of its marketing program, TiVo and Hulu will offer six months of free Hulu Plus service to newly purchased TiVo Premiere DVRs. Separately, Hulu Plus got another big agreement today and will now be available on the Xbox 360.

The deal with Hulu comes as other video-on-demand providers are expanding their content distribution deals. Last week, for example, Netflix (NSDQ: NFLX) signed its latest partnership with film studio Miramax. Meanwhile, Hulu’s current backers are getting antsy, as evidenced by Disney (NYSE: DIS) CEO Bob Iger, who told listeners to the company’s Q1 earnings call that he still supports Hulu but not to the exclusion of other opportunities.

The addition of Hulu Plus to TiVo Premiere represents a good step in the streaming video site’s effort to be accessible on every major video system. But it’s an even bigger boost to TiVo, which gets to co-opt a service that could eventually wind up as a major competitor. Among the other broadband video providers on TiVo Premiere, Hulu Plus is now next to Netflix, YouTube (NSDQ: GOOG), Amazon (NSDQ: AMZN) Instant Video, and Blockbuster (NYSE: BBI) on the DVR service.

In addition TiVo Premiere and Xbox 360, Hulu is PlayStation 3, Roku, iPad and Google Android Phones. Release
