Funzio, a social games developer best known for its hit title Crime City, has raised $20 million in a first round of funding led by IDG Ventures. Crime City, which launched last fall, has more than 600,000 daily active users on Facebook, and the company says in its announcement that it will use the new cash to triple its headcount to 90 in order to “launch games faster and develop them in parallel.” Playdom co-founder Rick Thompson, who sold his social games company to Disney (NYSE: DIS) last summer, is Funzio’s chairman.
