Last week’s Amazon (NSDQ: AMZN) server outage aside, managing data on the cloud is still likely to be a hot area this year, so it’s safe to expect a good deal of consolidation in the space. That is likely part of what inspired cloud data manager VMware’s acquisition of SlideRocket, which is kind of a Scribd-for-PowerPoint system. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Sliderocket’s services including online authoring, editing and access, combined with built-in collaboration and allows for several people to edit and create a presentation in a single, consistent file. The purchase is designed to shift more of VMware’s tools to the cloud. Release
