Greg,

Thanks for the comment. It's difficult to know who's still down without them reaching out, so I appreciate you giving voice to the little guy, so to speak. I've actually been wondering what's up with those remaining customers still experiencing problems that AWS refers to in its updates.

Thanks for the coverage, but please keep monitoring the actual status of the outage. While the high-profile sites (and others) may be up, we (and I suspect many thousands of others) are not, judging by the volume of messages on the support forum (https://forums.aws.amazon.com/forum.jspa?forumID=30).

We have complied with AWS's request to complain via private message. I've now been assigned a case with a "LOW" severity, and our development efforts are stuck in neutral while the world thinks there is only a post-mortem to be done. That's unsettling to those of us who remain in a cloud-coma.

www.cupidplay.com which is hosted on AWS was also up. We use RDS and EBS but have various multi-AZ DBs and read replicas and so were able to survive the loss of some of them.

Great summary Derrick. This should indeed be seen as a valuable learning experience in terms of designing reliable cloud services.
