If restaurants still offer to process payment and a customer would rather sit around, linger, and have the server process the payment, then that should be their choice. I think the technology is great, but people shouldn’t be forced to use it if they prefer not to.

I think that we could probably even go one step further. They could provide Cooking equipment at the tables and people could cook their own food. Then the only thing the restaurant would have to do is wash the dishes. Unless of course they provided disposable plates, glasses and flatware. In which case, people would be better off just eating at home!

Are we becoming that anti-social that we don’t even want to interact with the wait staff? Yes, let’s order and pay through a smart phone, then go and pick up our food when it comes out on a conveyor from a hidden kitchen. That way we don’t ever have to speak to or look at another person. If I go to a fine dining restaurant, then I want a fine dining experience, which means the restaurant staff takes care of EVERYTHING. It’s like the self-checkout lines at stores – I don’t get a price break for doing the work myself, so why would I spend the effort?

One question – do they clean the tablet with anti-bacterial cleaner after each use?
