Sounds like the perfect solution for people in a hurry. If restaurants still offer to process payment and a customer would rather sit around, linger, and have the server process the payment, then that should be their choice. I think the technology is great, but people shouldn't be forced to use it if they prefer not to.

@aep528 I agree! I think that we could probably even go one step further. They could provide Cooking equipment at the tables and people could cook their own food. Then the only thing the restaurant would have to do is wash the dishes. Unless of course they provided disposable plates, glasses and flatware. In which case, people would be better off just eating at home!

"And to fill those painfully agonizing minutes between ordering spinach artichoke dip appetizer and waiting for it to arrive, the tablet includes entertainment and social media features."

Good grief - are we THAT addicted to entertainment ? It's like kids who can't make a trip around the block to the grocery store in the family SUV without a video playing on the "entertainment center" that their parents paid a fortune for. Here's a novel idea - how about a conversation - DOH !

Seriously? Are we becoming that anti-social that we don't even want to interact with the wait staff? Yes, let's order and pay through a smart phone, then go and pick up our food when it comes out on a conveyor from a hidden kitchen. That way we don't ever have to speak to or look at another person. If I go to a fine dining restaurant, then I want a fine dining experience, which means the restaurant staff takes care of EVERYTHING. It's like the self-checkout lines at stores - I don't get a price break for doing the work myself, so why would I spend the effort?

One question - do they clean the tablet with anti-bacterial cleaner after each use?

I wonder why don't they just let consumers order the food through their smartphones? I mean, the restaurant will not have to buy it. Any consumer that has the app can use it to order, make payments etc.
