Completely agree. The problem isn't with incentivized installs - the real-world analog happens all the time and people like it. If incentivized installs were completely removed from iTunes stats, they would still be of value to both publishers and users. (I'm sure many of the people cheering Apple's decision to remove Tapjoy apps will be lauding Apple's announcement of their new iTunes incentivized install program.)

Interesting to see that just because some people agree with Apple they are perceived as "pretending" to believe them, and that they haven't based the opinion based on their own understanding. Why do you even seem annoyed by Apple doing it for the money after all it is a business and not a charity. The company exist to make money just like Google, MS and any other business. Even companies who seem to do things for the greater good, do it to line their pockets. Theirs monetary value in keeping the customer happy and sometimes you have to do it at the expense of the supplier. It's just business.

when I 1st started reading this article I thought for once maybe Apple was doing something good that wasnt selfish, but I had that lingering feeling that by the end of the article another POV would be made. I'm not surprised at all if Apple is really doing this for revenue purposes. I also wasnt surprised to see the comments from Apple faithful who want to believe Apple is doing it for the right reasons. if you like Apple & support them no matter what then just admit it, don't pretend like you believe they are doing it for the right reason, especially when they have never shown in the past even once to ever do anything that doesnt benefit themselves.

the Apple community reminds me so much of Republicans & FoxNews it's just scary, it's like one of those 80's horror movies full human "robots" that have stopped thinking for themselves.

Is pay-per install really that bad? I kind of like getting the free credit/chits in some of the games I play. It doesn't really bother me that I have to download some other app.

Definitely a step in the right direction. I've stopped looking at App Store rankings a long, long time ago because of pay-per-install effect. Apple should build a Google like page rank algorithm for app popularity and keep it a secret.

Thank you Apple for eliminating incentivized pay-per-install programs! This will make for a better Appstore and a healthy advertising ecosystem.

Almost all the top freemium grossing apps with high RPU that we work with have been using both high CPI banner and and low CPI incentivized install campaigns. The lower RPU apps that can only afford incentivized CPI programs will be weeded out with this change, and forced to make better apps.

Banner CPMs will likely go up because of this change, which is great for a lot of iOS developers in the ecosystem.
