With a near-infinite number of content sources out there on the web, finding videos that might be of interest is becoming ever more difficult. Increasingly, viewers are watching videos suggested by their friends on social networks like Twitter and Facebook. Enter Showyou, a new iOS mobile app that aggregates videos shared by social connections in one place.

Showyou was designed to enable easy discovery of videos users might not have seen otherwise. It works by pulling videos shared by your friends on Facebook and people you follow on Twitter, and displaying them in an immersive grid-like interface on the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. But it’s more than just discovering and watching videos on a mobile device. Because Showyou has AirPlay built in, users who have an Apple TV can also stream videos they find on Showyou to their TV.

Let’s Showyou (2) from Showyou on Vimeo.

The Showyou app was created by Remixation, the folks behind video curation site VodPod. But that doesn’t mean the company is giving up on Vodpod. In fact, it’s pitching the new app as a complement to what it has already built. While Vodpod is all about sharing and categorizing videos, Showyou is designed for video discovery.

As for its revenue model, the company will soon begin experimenting with different types of display and video advertising in the app. Also, at some point, Remixation might add a subscription offering that would enable users to watch and share videos from premium content companies, like say Netflix or Hulu. For now, though, videos shared through the app are limited to those posted on YouTube, Vimeo and TED Talks. But Remixation hopes to add more videos from other sources, as long as they’re HTML5- and iOS-compatible — and is interested in striking deals to bring those premium content sites into the fold.

Showyou is just one of many applications trying to surface videos based on who you’re connected to on social networks. Video discovery site Clicker, now part of CBS Interactive, partnered with Facebook last year to use information shared on the social network to help users discover new videos and shows online based on their interests and interests of their friends.

(Disclosure: Remixation is backed by True Ventures, a venture capital firm that is an investor in the parent company of this blog, Giga Omni Media. Om Malik, founder of Giga Omni Media, is also a venture partner at True.)
