Thanks for the article. In recent news from Gartner today more companies are shifting towards the private cloud and with that said VMware solutions are the backbone of all things private cloud and now with cloud foundry gaining an even stronger traction (as if it wasnt already doing well enough). The cloud is a good change and it overhauling technology sweeping through legacy equipment and cleaning out the dust in those closest.

It will be very interesting to see how the cloud foundry media circle adapts to open source community and by the looks of it it should be embraced with open hands having gone the right approach with NoSQL and CMS platforms.

I think it hurts because there are now companies/devs that will choose CloudFoundry instead of building or finding an OpenStack platform. Does it take away the entire market? No, but it cuts into it. But yes, it is early and I'm willing to be wrong (and then write about being wrong if it happens).

And I agree that this gets larger companies comfortable with PaaS and makes it easier to consume.

It is too early to speculate on who might get hurt from this announcement. First, CloudFoundry has to live somewhere, and an OpenStack cloud is just one of the many choices. Second, someone will have to set up and customize CloudFoundry before an enterprise can use it - why couldn't that be IBM on their cloud? Finally, the current PaaS players may worry, but OpenStack has been available for nearly a year now without encroaching on existing IaaS concerns yet. It takes time for an open-source project to develop and earn adoption.

What this does do is raise the importance of PaaS overall. Now larger companies may be more likely to put their toe in the cloud waters via PaaS, knowing there is the potential to graduate to a customized offering in the future.

Lots of people talk about cloud, storing/retrieve information from cloud, with now with application sit inside cloud. This trend really affected from the ways people do things, either you are a application developer to consumers. Changes are good, and let's how cloud actually change our life in near future!
