Dave, when you're innovating in infrastructure, it's necessary to use a hot term to get the word out. I started this project before NoSQL was a term. The fact that "noSQL" is the term for web-scale databases is a bit unfortunate, but I think we'll see a revival of SQL as the interface of choice over the coming year.
The technical issues behind SQL vs NoSQL are interesting, and I can argue that the SQL abstraction layer is just too deep for a majority of today's agile-style development. Certainly, we might agree that the monoculture of SQL does no good, and reliable databases with alternate interfaces are a positive step.
Whatever their name.

Aah, it seems like VCs and innovators are stuck around the idea of NoSQL. Here is another one, aptly termed in this article "NoSQL startup promising the moon!".
I don't think non-open-source is a non-starter for most companies as long as they get the right support and have no vendor lock-in. Even if MongoDB is open-source, I cannot expect my developers to go an fix it because we hit issues in production. Need 24x7 support no matter what software has to be used, or we risk our businesses.

I'm happy to see more competition in the nonSQL database market. We've been developing a web service using MongoDB and it is very good for high traffic services.
