Great piece, but why add some sort of maypole/ye-olde-worlde nonsense about Arianna Huffington leaving “that scepterd isle”

Bobbie is telling the Wikipedia version of why Arianna left England, but there’s another version, to wit that she was essentially hounded out of the country after she was busted for plagiarism. She tried to pass herself off as a public intellectual but couldn’t write a simple biography without massive cutting and pasting.

Arianna’s reputation in England is therefore only slightly better than that of Jack the Ripper. If AOL bought Huffy Puffy on the expectation that Arianna was going to spread the brand to England, they’re dumber than anyone thought.

Huffy Puffy’s content farming is simply Arianna’s traditional creative method – plagiarism – on a grand, technology-enabled scale. The Brits aren’t as credulous as America’s wooly left, and her reputation precedes her. This is going to be fun to watch.

This article is ridiculous. First of all the Daily Mail might not be physically in tabloid format but it’s several rungs *below* HuffPost on the scale between real news and tabloid sensationalism. Secondly, tom argue that English news is politically slaned and therefore HuffPost somehow won’t fit in as a result is just bizarre.
