I love this game – it is very addicting. I hate the ads. For a small price I would be willing to pay for the ad-free version.

I am willing to try the amazon app store, but I am used to android market. If amazon is not user-friendly out the gate, I think their is no reason to use them.

Well the Amazon launch has been a big fail. While iPhone users anywhere on the planet have been able to get Rio, only US-based Android users are able to get Rio. While Amazon may be a good remuneration bet for Rovio, it’s left non-US Android users of Angry Birds, well, angry.

I like the play on words: Amazon.com and Amazon River (Rio) which flows through Brazil.

It’ll be interesting to see how well the Amazon app store interacts with Android.

If it’s easy to use and install apps, it’ll have potential. If not, well…

Good point. I mentioned this in the post but yeah, Amazon could well have paid for the privilege. But I think Rovio wouldn’t have done this if they didn’t think Amazon would be a worthwhile place to do business.

While all of these are valid arguments, the one missing is money. Rovio is not doing this for their love of Amazon or any other App Store. They did this, because their was something else on the table: Remuneration (, cash, developer support, marketing NRE, multiple launch titles, etc. or a combination thereof) that Amazon put on the table. That’s a very common thing to do, including exclusives on consoles, so it should not be a surprise that we see this for Mobile apps as well. So I would not read too much into the other arguments…

Thanks for the comment. That was the copy editor going a bit too fast. Rovio hasn’t confirmed the official date for the iOS launch, only the Amazon/Android date, although previous press releases said the game release was meant to coincide with the movie release and “will be available for download on smart phones and tablets worldwide.”

If Amazon does get a leg up even over Apple, I’d be REALLY interested to know how much going over Steve Jobs’ head costs these days.

The first sentence is potentially unclear (or I am having trouble reading today!)

The first version would indicate the app won’t be available for iOS, the second says that if you want it for Android you have to get it from Amazon. The screenshot makes it sound like the second version.
