Finally gonna jump on the iPad bandwagon…was gonna get the 64GB wifi/3g and only question was who? Verizon or AT&T? Talking with a friend, seeing that I’m getting an Iphone in a couple days with AT&T finally coming to SD after taking over Alltel and all their towers, decided on just the wifi option. If I need 3G, I can just tether to my iPhone since all iPhones will get that with the iOS 4.3 upgrade…saves me $120 bucks…

I will be visiting my local Apple Store and picking up a spanking new iPad 2 16 Gb WiFi version, same as my old one. 3G is not and probably will never be available here in GSM form, so that is a non-issue. There is 3G CDMA available everywhere here, but Verizon cannot roam on that system. So, WiFi it will be.

Are those the sort of responses you were looking for? I think Steve Jobs may even take notice and decide to change everything that’s making Apple Billions of dollars and making 99% of their customers extremely happy just because you and your vocal minority don’t like it…

Which iPad would I buy? None of them. Media consumption devices need to be open and the iOS platform is far too closed. I can work around Apple’s strange obsession with control with my iPhone, because with it my needs are simple. For something larger, I’ll stick with OS X, probably buying a next-generation MacBook Air. For digital reading, I’ll upgrade my Kindle to another Kindle when the add a few much-needed improvements. The sad fact is that Amazon is much more committed to their Kindle store than Apple is to the iBookstore. Amazon has page synching Kindle apps for virtually every platform on the planet. There’s yet to be a version of iBooks for Macs.
