Excellent advice, Mr. Sunshine! I think the one thing that is not addressed is WHERE to sell your used iPad once it’s prepared for sale. My company purchases and recycles used electronics so I’d like believe I’m kind of an expert on this subject, but I digress (although if you have any questions about our business I’m happy to indulge you.) I think the most important steps are backing up and clearing data–you nailed it!

Nicole is right that it will be up to AT&T, but the more I think about it, the more I suspect it will just be a simple SIM card swap from old iPad to new iPad. Remember, your data plan is tied to the SIM card, so you should be able to purchase an iPad 2 and use the SIM from original iPad. At least that’s how I *expect* it to work. ;)

Great question. This will be up to AT&T to decide, though I imagine you could transfer it to the new device. We’re hoping AT&T will post an FAQ or something soon.

Not vital, but I’d suggest ..

Make sure it’s 100% charged. Then switch it off properly, so it’ll still be fully charged when they switch it on for the first time.

Check that you’re packing the correct 10W white power adaptor in the box. An ordinary one won’t be able to charge the iPad (or will at least take forever to do so). You don’t want to be accused of selling a faulty device “because it won’t charge”.

If you’re selling a 3G iPad, consider whether to remove and keep the SIM or leave it in there for them. Especially if you’ll still be paying if it’s used.
