As Derrick Harris stated in his 2011 cloud computing outlook (subscription required), while many of today’s companies talk a good game, many are still just paying lip-service to cloud computing when it comes to using cloud platforms for mission-critical tasks. However, that could change quickly in the coming years, as many CEOs and CIOs make plans to take advantage of the low cost and scalability of the cloud for key enterprise applications and processes in the future. This move will be reinforced by the vendor side of the equation as well, as influential enterprise vendors stock up on everything from big data analytics to virtualization offerings.

So as interest in the cloud grows both in the executive suite and on Wall Street, it pays to take a close look at what areas and applications within the enterprise stand to gain the most in the coming few years, as well as examine where the biggest sticking points for cloud adoption will remain.

We will do just that in our forthcoming complimentary webinar on March 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. PST, as we take the pulse of the business cloud with our lineup of experts:

  • Brett Sheppard – Our moderator is GigaOM Pro member analyst and director, Zettaforce
  • Derrick Harris – Editor of GigaOM Structure blog and GigaOM Pro cloud curator
  • Michael Dortch – GigaOM Pro member analyst, principal, DorthonIT
  • Andy Schroepfer – VP of enterprise strategy, Rackspace Hosting
