I&#039;m as big of a fan of OKTrends as anyone, but anyone who&#039;s taken a social science research methods course will tell you that raw numbers is not what makes a survey accurate.  300,000 vs. 3,200 will definitely not yield more statistically accurate numbers if the poll is not a blind random poll.  And since OKCupid draws their data from their users there are confounding factors (most would be single, within certain age ranges, education levels, etc.) that make their opinions out-of-sync with the mainstream.

What OKCupid does really well, and I have always found this to be ironic, is provide the rest of the online dating business with illuminating information for use in their competitors&#039; service planning.  It will be interesting to see if their analytics remain similarly useful now that they are a match.com company.  One such report was actually pulled right after that acquisition, so my guess is no.]]></description>
