Facebook is like a class reunion. Twitter is like a huge roundtable discussion. Which is better for business? We use both and get results from both social connections. Facebook “Like” helps us get the “word of mouth” connections from friends and actual customers, while “Tweets” bring us business from business people or businesses itself. I would suggest both platforms.

Great points you mentioned in you articles. Thanks

Getting your "social news" from from sites that were originally built to do something different, and that haven't changed their platforms to deliver news effectively and efficiently, is probably not the best long term solution.

The Twitter community "hacked" Twitter to us it as a social news service, but why can't you just follow "news" if that's what they want to provide? I have to follow people and hope they deliver the news to me.

Blatant promotion, but it's relevant to the convo: If you could take Twitter and start over to specialize in social news distribution, what would that look like? I think it would look like PoundWire (the beta preview is going on over at x.poundwire.com).

If you want good, relevant, and personalized social news, follow news topics. It's that simple. And if you're a source of news, post directly to people who care about your topics.

Interesting read. Makes sense that Facebook isn't trying to push in that direction but is hoping apps/developers help them head that way. News is a natural fit for Twitter as its an app where users are interested in learning what people that they think are important have to say. But with Facebook being so much more "restricted"... its trickier.

Very interesting and timely article, given the significant role played by both Facebook and Twitter in recent global events. The fact that the services mentioned in the article are being developed to contextualize social media to news, highlights the need that Twitter and Facebook leave unaddressed. Here's a service that's being launched to cater to this specific segment.
