Travel review site TripAdvisor has bought EveryTrail as it continues its mobile push. EveryTrail lets users publish online guides featuring a map of a trip directly from their phones; the map is automatically created based on the phone’s GPS coordinates, while photos taken with the phone can be automatically plotted onto it as well.
In a release, TripAdvisor, which launched a mobile version of its site a year ago and has since launched apps for the major smartphone platforms, says five-year-old EveryTrail will “compliment” its existing offerings.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. TripAdvisor, which is owned by Expedia, has made a series of acquisitions over the years; in October 2009, it paid more than $12 million to buy up Chinese travel site Kuxun as part of an expansion into that country, and it purchased travel sites VirtualTourist and OneTime (NYSE: TWX) in July 2008. EveryTrail had raised $1 million in a first round of funding just over a year ago.
