I saw this news this morning and couldn't help but wonder what on earth I'm missing. Both Apple and now Google are pushing wireless printing like it's the best thing since sliced bread, and I believe I saw an HP commercial for it the other day, too.

I work in the corporate office of a major technology retailer, have several computers hooked up at home, and even a printer connected to my home network, and I can't for the life of me figure out what on earth people are printing (or wanting to print) so much to warrant this kind of attention from Apple, Google, HP, and others. Sure, there are random specific use-cases like the ones you mentioned, but overall? I don't remember the last thing I printed - at work OR at home. Emails? Gdocs? Are you serious?

In a world of dry-erase boards, SMS, email, and electronic ticketing, I can't imagine we really need to be investing resources into wireless printing. It feels like a monstrous step backwards.
