The BBC were criticized about spending on proprietary platforms using the universal license fee from the get go after the trendy fan-boys there launched first with the just-launched low-penetration iPhone 1 over the likes of the more popular Symbian, blackberry, consoles, et al.


In the BBC Trust finally putting it&#039;s foot down with this new standards-based policy after all these years, it is only doing what the premise of the BBC has meant to have been from it&#039;s foundation at the beginning of the last century - of originating content/tech. to promote a single open platform to promote hardware.
