A new service aims to make holiday gift cards easier to give and use through the mobile phone. SWAGG handles gift cards for hundreds of merchants, and makes purchasing in the store as simple as flashing the iPhone or Android phone at checkout. Consumers can receive gift cards through SWAGG on the phone, or import the plastic version into the app for future purchases.
Giving a gift card through SWAGG is very easy, as they can be purchased and sent to the recipient from the phone. The gift can be accompanied by a personal message from the giver, including a video greeting recorded on the phone. The recipient can use gift cards through the phone, even keeping up with the remaining balance on the card.
SWAGG is the brainchild of Outlier, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm. The company is donating $1 to the fight against cancer for each new customer who downloads the app for the iPhone or Android, then registers for the service.
