Those looking for a new smartphone should check out the penny sale at Amazon Wireless. BGR reports that all Verizon Droid smartphones are only one red cent through Nov. 22, and a little investigation shows these aren’t the only phones on sale. Amazon has some Android phones from AT&T, Sprint and Verizon for a penny, and a number of BlackBerry handsets for the keyboard-bound among you.

All deals require new service with the carrier, so no existing customers need apply. There’s no need to wait for Black Friday with these prices on good smartphones. Here’s a short list of the bargains of particular interest:

  1. The problem with this deal (and every other “cheap” phone plan I’ve found on the web) is that you must take the $30 a month data plan and cannot choose the $15 plan you can get through Verizon. The extra $15 a month means another $180 per year or $360 over the life of the contract. If you have access to wifi, you can get by with the cheaper data plan. I suspect that verizon will run some sales over the holidays and may run some android discounts when the get the iphone. Patience.

  2. Where’s the kicker ? Obviously this is a scam or some kind of tech based pyramid scheme. Bet they rape your wallet on the backend for sure.

    1. This is neither a scam or scheme – in fact, Amazon routinely offers phones for a penny from time to time. However, you have to be pretty sure you’re going to stick with the device because on top of the carrier ETF charges for an early cancellation, Amazon has their own fees as well.
