Good article...I for one will be glad when my phone (and, for that matter, web) experience gets personalized wherever I interact...more relevance = less clutter.

I went to the mall and used Zebek's app...you text search words (like 'jeans' or 'jewelry') to a shortcode (28166)...you get TXT back with a coupon and link to WAP page with map...pretty cool..would like downloadable version. Seems like some of the ads are specific to American Express...girl at the mall said American Express is sponsoring the app...so I guess they are Zebek's client...pretty impressive.

Absoutely excellent article. The power of customization and personalization is becoming more apparent the larger the web gets. Differing yourselves from your competition who may be offering the product at the same place for the same price can give you the edge.

The B2B personalization race is about who can maximize most the value and uniqueness of some specific data. Because of this, there isn't just one B2B personalization race as there are too many data verticals to become expert in.

For example, some companies specialize in music and movies, like thefilter.com, some in q&a like hunch.com, some in ecommerce like baynote.

As far as we are concerned at LikeCube, we are expert in maximizing the value of locations and places related data, using primarily reviews, ratings, checkins, bookings and meta-data about places. So our customers are typically local business review services, checkin services and travel sites.

As the article suggests, the recent launch of Google Hotpot can be a threat to them. Hence why we think maximizing the value and uniqueness of their content through personalization is a must for these companies to stay competitive. http://www.likecube.com/blog/2010/11/18/what-does-google-hotpot-mean-for-other-location-businesses.html

As long as the experiance is controlled by the business (customer), I believe that enabling the customer to better service its constituents without having a third party touch the end-user is a massive leg up for the Zebek platform. Definitely protects the end user while providing it with the best experiance possible.
