Social media marketer Federated Media has acquired BigTent, a site that serves as portal for groups interested in parenting topics. Terms were not disclosed. The deal comes about two months after FM bought semantic search provider TextDigger.

The purchase is part of FM’s ongoing plan to broaden its blog network from tech sites and audiences to offering ones aimed at a general consumer through verticals related to fashion and food.

Parenting isn’t exactly new to FM. While it sought to build up its parents vertical through through its affiliation with the Clever Girls Collective in August, it’s worth noting that one of the network’s first and biggest sites is the mom blog Dooce.

San Francisco-based BigTent, a startup providing social networking tools to groups, raised a $5 million first round from Menlo Ventures and Mohr Davidow Ventures.
