GE Snaps Up Opal Software for the Smart Grid

GE is stretching out further along the network of the smart grid. This morning, GE said it has acquired Australian company Opal Software, which makes software and services for smart grid network testing and management. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Read More »

Nokia’s N900 handset is a step closer to running MeeGo, the open source operating system that Nokia plans to challenge with in the high-end device market. By increasing development efforts on an existing device, Nokia can’t be seen as “late” in delivering a MeeGo device. Read More »

A press release just issued by Apple reveals that a partnership between it and Verizon will see the iPad make its way to the wireless provider’s store shelves Oct. 28. Apple also announced that the iPad will be available at AT&T stores on the same day. Read More »

This morning the industry darling announced that it will boost capacity to a whopping 2.7 GW by 2012, by building two new factories, one in the U.S. and one in Vietnam. That’s double its current annual production of 1.4 GW. Read More »

AOL’s reported interest in merging with Yahoo seems more like a desperation move or a Hail Mary pass than any kind of coherent strategy for success on the part of either company. Neither has shown any evidence that it understands the new realities of the web. Read More »

Netflix subscribers with Sony PlayStation 3 consoles will now be able to access the service through a native app, which has a slew of new features, including Dolby 5.1 audio, 1080p video on some titles and a new UI to browse and search the service. Read More »
